Yip, not a word of a lie. Yesterday Microsoft released 20000 lines of code for Linux kernel inclusion, meaning that the potential exists for every future version of Linux to play nicely inside a Hyper-V guest.
The code was released as GPL (did I mention I wasn’t lying) which means that you’re not paying a cent extra to be able to virtualize a Linux guest. No ideas on dates when new Kernels may have these inclusions yet.
You may care to know that this isn’t the only place where Microsoft is contributing to the open source community, with PHP 5.3 being worked on as well, in order to improve how well that runs on a Windows box.
All in all a great week for technology announcements. May not be the last announcement this week either 😉
